 Can you tell us briefly about yourself and how you ventured into this creative field?


Thank you for having me! It's a pleasure to be here. My journey into the realm of food styling and photography is quite unique. I was initially a teacher in Denmark, but I grew to desire change and a longing to establish myself as an entrepreneur. With a deep passion for art and photography, I decided to take the leap and transition into a freelance career.

In 2014, I decided to open an Instagram account as a platform to showcase my portfolio. At that point, I hadn't considered it as a business venture; it was more of a fun tool for sharing my work. Alongside this, I invested in a DSLR camera to elevate the quality of my photography.

Interestingly, my follower base grew mainly from the United States, and I even had the honor of being featured in publications like Vogue and Elle Decor US. The appeal stemmed from the unique Scandinavian art and style I incorporated into my work. The minimalistic yet captivating aesthetic resonated well with audiences, setting me apart and capturing their attention.



Can you tell us about the influences shaping your distinctive food styling and photography approach?


Growing up in Denmark, I was surrounded by a culture that embraced simplicity and clean lines in design. This ethos naturally extended to my approach to food styling and photography. I draw inspiration from the minimalism and elegance that Scandinavian art embodies. This clean aesthetic allows the subject, in this case, the food, to take center stage and be celebrated in its pure form.

Additionally, my passion for art plays a significant role in my work. I often view food as a canvas, and each dish presents an opportunity to create a visual masterpiece. The interplay of colors, textures, and arrangements becomes a form of artistic expression for me.



Could you share a bit about your creative process? How do you go about bringing your artistic vision to life?


My creative process often starts with research and inspiration-gathering. I look to various sources, including nature, art, and design, to spark ideas for compositions and arrangements. Once I conceptualize a vision, I work closely with ingredients and props to create a harmonious visual narrative.

Lighting is crucial in photography, and I often prefer using Nordic or natural light to capture the true essence of the food. Patience is key during this stage, as I wait for the perfect light that enhances the natural textures and colors in the dish.

I also believe in the power of storytelling through my work. Each image tells a story about the ingredients, their origins, and the emotions they evoke. By combining all these elements, I strive to create visuals that resonate deeply with the viewers.



Can you share where you draw your inspiration from to create visually enchanting compositions?


Inspiration for me is a multi-faceted gem that I gather from various sources. One of the most profound wellsprings of creativity for me is nature. I have an innate affinity for the outdoors, and walking through the tranquil embrace of a forest provides me with an almost meditative experience. The textures, colors, and harmonious chaos of nature's design stimulate my imagination. During these walks, I often visualize how different ingredients, props, and settings could intertwine to create a visual narrative.

Moreover, nature's ever-changing seasons each possess a unique beauty that speaks to me. The vibrant hues of spring, the warm and lazy tones of summer, the rich and rustic palette of autumn, and the ethereal calm of winter all offer a distinctive backdrop for my creations. By immersing myself in these seasonal shifts, I can infuse my work with the emotions and atmospheres that resonate with me.

Beyond nature, I find inspiration in unexpected corners. Vintage interiors hold a special place in my heart. The timeless aesthetics and the stories embedded in old furniture and decor they evoke a sense of nostalgia and authenticity that I strive to infuse into my compositions. I often visit museums, absorbing the artistry of bygone eras, letting their essence seep into my creative process.

In essence, my creative vision is a mosaic woven from the threads of these experiences. The fusion of nature's raw beauty, the nostalgia of vintage charm, and the echoes of artistic masterpieces guide my hand when I style and capture my culinary subjects. In Italy, the vibrant tapestry of colors and the bountiful agricultural offerings have always fascinated me. The abundant sunlight casts a warm glow on everything it touches, allowing me to capture the richness of ingredients in their full splendor. The bold and vivid hues of fresh produce, the play of light and shadow, and the inherent sense of passion in Italian cuisine all weave together to form a distinct visual language that I embrace in my photography. The authenticity and vitality of Italian food culture inspire me to create images that evoke the senses and transport viewers to the heart of an Italian trattoria.

On the other hand, Denmark's Nordic light and minimalist ethos resonate deeply with me. The clarity and simplicity that Nordic design and cuisine embody are reflected in my work. The serene Nordic light has a unique way of highlighting the purity of ingredients and the intricacies of texture. This minimalist approach not only showcases the beauty of individual elements but also underscores the elegance of the overall composition.

Bringing these two worlds together in my work is a joyful challenge. I aim to capture the essence of both cultures while maintaining a cohesive visual narrative. How do you ensure the food looks appetizing and enticing in your photos?


Ensuring that the food appears irresistibly appetizing and enticing in my photos is a meticulous process that involves several key elements. Firstly, I prioritize using only the freshest and highest quality ingredients. Freshness impacts the taste of the food and plays a significant role in how it visually appeals to the audience.

Colors and compositions are vital in creating an alluring visual impact. I carefully select a palette that complements the dish and resonates with the intended mood. The arrangement of the elements on the plate is like an intricate dance; each ingredient has its place, contributing to the overall harmony of the shot.

To bring my vision to life, I often create mood boards that help me conceptualize the aesthetics, textures, and emotions I want to convey through the photograph. This is a guiding light throughout the shoot, ensuring that every detail aligns with the intended narrative.

Sometimes, I go beyond the immediate culinary setup to enhance the ambiance. For instance, I might paint walls or use backdrops that harmonize with the food, improving the visual storytelling. This attention to detail extends even to the props used, as they contribute to the narrative of the dish.

My approach to food styling and photography is a symphony of freshness, colors, arrangements, mood boards, and thoughtful details, all orchestrated to make the viewer's palate crave the culinary creations I present.



your food stylist and photographer work is known for its artistic flair and visual appeal. Could you share your insights on how you balance your artistic vision and the practical demands of commercial projects?


Finding the right balance between artistic expression and commercial needs is essential to my work as a food stylist and photographer. While my artistic vision drives my creations, I understand the importance of catering to the client's goals and target audience.

One instance that comes to mind is when I was working with a client who wanted to showcase avocados as part of their project. They envisioned a more sophisticated presentation that included a traditional Guacamole, but I felt there was an opportunity to infuse a fresh and delicate aesthetic. Instead of merely placing the avocado slices on the Guacamonle, I suggested featuring them on a piece of toast with a beautifully arranged leaf, adding a touch of elegance and making the dish look more appetizing and appealing to the eye.

In cases like these, I find that effective communication is key. Explaining my creative ideas and their reasoning, I can help clients understand how my suggestions align with their objectives. Collaborative discussions allow us to find common ground and develop concepts that marry artistic creativity and commercial effectiveness.

Ultimately, my goal is to elevate the visual impact of the food while also fulfilling the client's vision. It's a delicate dance, but when executed well, it can result in images that tell a story captivate the audience, and meet the project's goals. This delicate balance keeps my work artistically fulfilling and commercially successful.



Could you share with us some of the most memorable experiences you've had throughout your career?


One of the most unforgettable projects I enjoyed working on was collaborating with the talented Dua Ajrash for VesVas cafe in Kuwait. This venture wasn't just about creating stunning visuals; it was a heartwarming journey filled with love and friendship. When I stepped into VesVas cafe, I felt an overwhelming sense of welcome and warmth, as if I had entered a space where creativity and camaraderie thrived.

The connection I established with Dua Ajrash transcended the boundaries of professional collaboration and blossomed into a deep bond of friendship. As we worked together to bring our creative visions to life, I immersed myself in an environment of shared passion and mutual respect. The entire experience was nothing short of magical, where every shot captured the essence of the cuisine and the genuine emotions and stories behind each dish.

What truly touched my heart was how this project allowed us to transcend the role of mere colleagues. Our interactions extended beyond work discussions as we exchanged ideas, laughter, and cultural insights. Through our collaboration, we evolved from collaborators to become a tight-knit family united by our passion for culinary artistry and our love for what we do.

The VesVas cafe project has left an indelible mark on me, reminding me that the most memorable and fulfilling projects go beyond aesthetics and evoke emotions. It's not just about the photographs we create; it's about the connections we establish, the stories we tell, and the friendships we cultivate along the way.



 How important is social media in your line of work?


Social media plays a crucial role in my work as a food stylist and photographer. It is a window through which I can showcase my creations to a global audience. The reach and accessibility that social media provides have been invaluable in sharing my passion for food styling and photography with people from all walks of life.

However, there's a notable shift happening in the social media landscape. While it has allowed me to connect with a wider audience, I've noticed some changes that give me pause. The constant evolution and rapid changes in algorithms and trends have led to a loss of authenticity in the platform. It's becoming more challenging to feel a genuine connection with my audience as the focus sometimes seems to shift towards metrics and aesthetics rather than the heart of the content.

Interacting with my audience has also evolved. There's been a noticeable decline in meaningful engagement and dialogue. It's as if the platform's primary purpose has shifted from fostering genuine connections to serving as a commercial tool for various industries.

I remain hopeful that social media will retain its core value of inspiring and motivating people. It needs to be a space where innovation and creativity thrive rather than just a place for selling products and services. I believe that if we can strike a balance between commercialization and genuine artistic expression, social media can continue to be a powerful force for positive change in food styling and photography.



Can you tell us about the unique focus of your upcoming workshops in Denmark and Italy?


The workshops I conduct in Denmark and Italy are unique in my heart. These workshops foster creativity and build a solid foundation for aspiring food stylists and photographers. Collaborating with fellow food stylists and artists, the workshops offer a holistic experience where participants learn the technical aspects of styling and photography and immerse themselves in a nurturing and passionate environment.

Through these workshops, I aim to provide students with more than technical skills; I want them to gain creative confidence. It's about learning how to arrange food, capture its essence, and discover their unique style and perspective. My approach is very personal and hands-on. I work closely with each student, understanding their strengths and areas for improvement. With a strong intuition for what each individual needs, we work together to enhance their skills and help them flourish.
